Book Review. Eternal Road: The Final Stop by John W. Howell

Time is endless in thy hands, my lord.
There is none to count thy minutes.
Rabindranath Tagore

The idea of eternity as it relates to God is an essential concept in any religion. We all know that God is eternally existent = God exists outside the human concept of time, but also inside of time.

If eternity can be as long as you desire, this means that life after death is a never-ending trip; it is the answer to making your dreams come true, the opportunity to visit as many places as you’d like, and to help as many people as you wish. These ideas are what the novel is about: time, love, change, death, an infinity of the soul, the world without end.

Eternal Road: The Final Stop, by John W. Howell, is paranormal fiction with a fresh take on the genre. The novel unites mystery, suspense, thriller, supernatural, and metaphysical sub-genres. It begins with a road trip across different centuries where the main characters – James and Sam – are determined to live eternal life (after death) to the fullest. It isn’t often that people feel free enough to live the life they want. Society has too many constraints. Plus, there’s no Travel Machine yet…😉 So, John W. Howell is inviting us to experience something we can only fantasize about.

The story is an odyssey of two broken, or lost, souls. This is an odyssey which could include any historical event, where you can meet anyone: from Wyatt Earp to Lucifer or from Hitler to Florence. A trip to the dark corner of your soul, a journey with unique and individual lessons.

There’s a concept regarding: the slower you move, the faster your time passes, and the faster you move, the slower your time passes. James and Sam had found the way to slow down time to the point of zero – basically, they are moving at the speed of light between the Bellagio in Las Vegas and the Twin Towers; between a western saloon and the Central Chief from the future (year 3935). They are masters of their own destiny in the spiritual world. They are two souls on the path of their last self-exploration.

Jung once said: “People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. They will practice yoga in all its exercises, observe a strict regimen of diet, learn theosophy by heart, or mechanically repeat mystic texts from the literature of the whole world. All because they cannot get on with themselves and have not the slightest faith that anything useful could ever come out of their own souls.

What Jung describes is a sad fact, and this theme is not an easy topic to write about. Will our heroes, Sam and James, rediscover themselves? Will they face their fears and fantasies? We have to read the book to find out. 📚☕️😬

One of the things I admired about John W. Howell was that he could harken back to a golden age of mystery and historical fiction and still keep this work relevant and exciting in contemporary times. I loved the supernatural elements, which were woven seamlessly into the text and dialogues. I also thoroughly enjoyed the character development of James as he continued to figure out his place and purpose on that Eternal Journey. I felt that Sam brought out many new sides to James’ personality, which were fun to see and explore, especially the erotic sides.😜

There is no road in this book without peculiar meetings and experimental spooning.
There is no page without a deep
bond between the two main heroes.

I would highly recommend Eternal Road: The final Stop by John W. Howell as an accomplished work of historical paranormal fiction with a theological aspect that fans of the genre won’t want to miss out on.
